Ask any ESL or EFL teacher what actually wears them down, and it’s rarely the time in front of students. It’s what happens after class ends: building tomorrow’s lesson from nothing, writing out comprehension questions for a reading passage, grading thirty short answers one at a time, then doing it all over again in a slightly different way for the next level down. Most teachers never really clock out of this job. They just move it to the kitchen table.
